Zimmer says “right thing to do” is stop buying foreign oil

Conservative Prince George – Peace River MP Bob Zimmer MP believes Canadians should be its own provider of oil.

To help out our own economy, he believes Eastern Canada should cut all ties with imported gas and rely solely on the West’s supply

“Especially when we see transfer payments go to the East (overseas) and we see the benefits of that industry and I think we should have a policy in Canada that we use Canadian oil first,” he says.

He says this would also support ethical workplaces.

“People, whether they like oil or not, it’s something that we need in our society whether it’s from cell phones to vehicles and where would you rather get it from? Canadians, where we do have a good humans right record in the world, or get it from other countries, from North Africa or Saudi Arabia?”

Ideally, he’d like a pipeline, something like Energy East, connecting Eastern refineries with Western crude oil.

He adds that Canada spent $20.2 billion on imported oil in 2014.
