It’s their last of the season, and it’s usually the biggest.
Operation Red Nose, a free, volunteer-led driving service, is asking callers to have a little patience with them this evening.
“With only 25 teams out tonight on New Year’s Eve, we know from previous years we’ll be quite busy between midnight and 4 a.m. getting everyone home safely. We’ll provide rides within city limits that night only as we’ve done in in the past,” said Andrea Johnson, spokesperson for Red Nose.
In previous years on New Year’s Eve; 24 teams delivered 166 rides in 2017; 24 teams provided 172 rides in 2016, and 35 teams provided 209 rides in 2015.
So far after eight nights of service, Operation Red Nose, organized by the Rotary Club of Prince George Nechako in partnership with ICBC and the Prince George RCMP, has provided 802 safe rides home in 2018 with the help of 200 volunteers.
In 2017, a total of 838 rides were delivered over the course of nine nights. In 2016, a total of 872 rides were delivered over the course of 10 nights, while 1,059 rides were provided on nine nights in 2015.
Those who require a ride home can call 250-962-7433 between 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.
