A motor vehicle incident involving a three year old yesterday morning turns out to be more serious than it first seemed.
The initial release from the Prince George RCMP said that early indications were that the child was struck by a vehicle backing up in a parking lot, which, upon further investigation was found to be incorrect.
Officers now believe that an adult female driver in a small SUV traveling southbound on Ospika Boulevard “bypassed the meridian and traveled against traffic flow for a short distance before entering the parking lot of a retail strip mall.”
The child was standing near a parent when the driver struck them and one tire drove completely over the mid-section of the three year old.
“This could have been far, far worse. A three year old child was driven over by a 2000 pound car, or however heavy it is, and we are very grateful, it’s amazing the child will fully recover,” said Corporal Craig Douglass.
From the RCMP release:
“Fortunately, the child was transported to hospital for treatment and miraculously, is expected to fully recover. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene. Alcohol was not a factor. The investigation is continuing.”
Douglass said they fully anticipate charges will be laid against the driver.
