The issue of wildfires is being brought up at the Monday, December 10th regular council meeting. It is recommended Council approve a grant application to bring in funds for wildfire mitigation, including community education as well as planning for, and initiating, wildfire fuel treatment activities. The Community Resiliency Investment grant program will fund up to 100% of eligible costs to a maximum of $100,000 per year. The funding request total is $292,000.
Trading and collectible cards being sold from second-hand dealers and pawnbrokers will be discussed. Kelsy Polnik of Game Quest requested the cards be exempt from the bylaw requirements of needing to be held for 30 days nearly two years ago. Administration supports the amendment, however, there are some RCMP concerns.
Council will look at a bylaw closing road area at Marleau Road and O’Grady Road for the purpose of selling the area to Roman Catholic Episcopal Corporation of Prince Rupert, who owns the adjacent property. Another road area closure, at Ospika Boulevard and Gogolin Road, will be looked at which is also for the purpose of selling.
CNC President Henry Reiser and Acting Vice-President Academic Chad Thompson will provide updates on the school’s strategic, education, and aboriginal education plans, as well as a few community updates.
The Citizens of the Year will be congratulated and recognized for their contributions. They are Pat and Nancy Harris, Charles Jago, and Les Waldie. Laurie Kosec, the City Strategic Parks Planner, will also be congratulated for receiving a Provincial Board of Examiners Certificate in Local Government Service Delivery.
