PG pummeled by Portland, swept in weekend doubleheader

Taylor Gauthier had some highlight-worthy saves Saturday in Portland, but the goaltender on the other side arguably had the better game.

Portland’s Shane Farkas stopped all 22 shots he faced from Prince George, handing the Cougars their third shutout loss of the season by a score of 3-0.

Gauthier made 36 saves in the contest, but PG was outscored 8-2 during the weekend doubleheader in the Rose Quarter.

Portland scored once in the first, and twice in the second with one coming on the power-play.

The Cats failed to capitalize on six power-play opportunities, including three in the final frame.

Prince George’s record drops to 11-16-1-2, however, with overtime losses from both Kamloops and Victoria, only two points separate last from third in the BC Division.

The 11-game holiday road trip continues for the Cougars on Tuesday in Seattle.

Prince George leads the season-series, having already beaten the Thunderbirds last month 4-1 and 2-0 in a home doubleheader.
