Barkerville Victorian Christmas a real trip back in time

You can take a trip back in time this weekend at Barkerville’s Victorian Christmas.

James Douglas, Manager of Visitor Experience says the weather is going to make the event just that much better with the forecast calling for a light dusting of snow across Barkerville’s main street.

“We’ve got miniature displays in the visitor reception centre, a genuine Victorian Father Christmas, our stores are open, the bakery will be open, for some last-minute baking gifts,” he says.

“You get an opportunity to visit a town that has hustle -and-bustle during the mining season, but a smaller population – a very communal population in the winter time,” Douglas explains. “Just given the blankets of fresh snow, it just creates the quintessential Christmas experience.”

“If Charles Dickens and A Christmas Carol (the good parts) are something that you think about when you think about Christmas, coming to Barkerville is exactly what you want to do,” he says.

The Barkerville Victorian Christmas starts Saturday and runs right through to Monday.
