Phone upgrades, a better signal, or something else entirely?
Regardless of what made this week’s emergency alert broadcast across the province better the second time around, more Prince George residents appear to have received the message.
According to a poll taken by My PG Now immediately following the alert, and scattered across social media, 76% of voters said they got the text on their phones at 1:55PM on Wednesday from Emergency Management BC (EMBC).
However, the other 24% claimed they didn’t get the message, with some even saying they got the first alert back in May, but not the second one.
The results are based on more than 600 participants, combining both Twitter and Facebook, as seen below.
The common complaints from residents are also similar to the initial test, such as bad cell service or their phone is still out-of-date.
Radio stations, including 94.3 the GOAT and Country 97 FM, and televisions also broadcasted the alert.
On April 6th, 2017, the CRTC mandated wireless service providers be capable of sending wireless public alerts in Canada by April 6th of this year.
There’s currently no schedule in place for the next text of the emergency alert broadcast.
