Prince George commuters will see a lengthy closure at a significant intersection downtown starting on Wednesday.
Queensway and Patricia Boulevard will be closed for at least one month as crews will be installing a new sewer line to support housing and commercial projects next to City Hall.
According to the City, the project is taking place because the current sanitary system is ‘at capacity.’
“While this work to upgrade our sewer system is critical, we recognize that closing Queensway will pose a major inconvenience and we are doing everything we can to make sure the closure is as short as possible,” said City Engineering Director Adam Homes in a statement.
“For example, doing this work now, when the groundwater levels are lowest, will minimize delays that can be caused by high groundwater. We are also committed to accommodating pedestrians for the duration of the project.”
Traffic control is already in effect for the intersection, causing minor delays.
Residents in the South Fort George area are encouraged to detour on Victoria and Winnipeg Streets to get downtown.
