“We are still in the shock phase”: Hospice Dream Home winner

2018 Hospice Dream Home winner Caroline Harvey talks about her new home | Matt Fetinko, My PG Now

Buying Hospice Dream Home lottery tickets is nothing new for Caroline Harvey, but winning it is.

Her ticket was drawn of the nearly 10,000 to win the over 3,300 square foot home valued at $588,000.

“I don’t know what it feels like to win something like Lotto 649 or something, I don’t know how many days it takes before you finally go ‘I won! That was me!’,” laughed Harvey.

“It’s really strange.”

Harvey said she found out when her son called her cell phone. Family had been trying to reach her to tell her the news but even still she could not believe it.

“He said mom you won the house and I’m like what are you talking about,” she chuckled.

“I had him on speaker phone on my cell phone, my daughter is calling on her phone because they are trying to find me, social media was blowing up with my name all over it.”

The win is something Harvey is thankful for beyond obvious reasons. She talked about one of her friends who was taken care of by hospice before passing away in 2012. The support is not something Harvey took lightly and said the most important part of this lottery is to support the hospice.

“They do such wonderful work and it’s a great service. I’ve had friends that I’ve known that have gone through the hospice house and the level of care that they get is unbelievable. They’re awesome people.”

While exploring her new home, Harvey mentioned her favourite part is the kitchen. With Christmas next month, she talked about her excitement of cooking many, many Christmas cookies with her family.

As for when her family will move in, that is still up in the air.

“We have not gotten to that stage yet, we are still in the shock phase. We’re still weighing options and talking about things, we haven’t made any decisions whatsoever.

“My mom said don’t make any rash decisions.”
