College Heights resident on the lookout for stolen snowblower

A College Heights resident is warning people to keep their possessions stored away after his snowblower was stolen this week.

D’Arcy Michiel says the thief went as far as to snap the bike-lock keeping it secure in his driveway, on Wednesday.

“It was pretty tough, I had just gotten it, I was excited that I got to use it when we got that pile of snow a couple weeks ago, I was heartbroken that it’s gone,” he says.

Michiel filed a report with police, who say the used orange Husqvarna snow blower, valued at around $600, might not have gotten far.

“The police officer was very helpful,” he says. “She said it might be a neighbour, so the next time we get a big snowfall, I think I might do a couple walks around the neighbourhood, just to see anyone try to operate it in their driveway,” he says. “I’ll also check Kijiji or places where people sell such things.”

Michiel says he would do things differently if he ever manages to replace it.

“I would continue to lock it up and I would get a cover for it,” he says. “That’s the biggest thing, if [thieves] don’t see it, if they don’t know it’s there, they won’t investigate it.”
