After being forced out of the race for the Conservative nomination in the Caribou -Prince George riding, local businessman TJ Grewal has announced that he will be throwing his support behind Todd Doherty.
Grewal was disqualified last month due to a technicality on his membership. The former front runner has 1500 members behind him and his endorsement will be a massive boost.
Grewal says he chose Doherty because he is a man that will stay put and represent the region;
“Todd has strong family ties in Prince George and the region like in Williams Lake. He’s not somebody who is going to pack and leave and take his family to Ottawa”
He also stated that his Indo-Canadian members had voiced support for Doherty as a second choice and that it wasn’t just his decision;
“I had several meetings with my main supporters that were the ones that basically signed up most of the membership in three weeks. I consulted with them and that’s how we reached our decision, it wasn’t just my sole decision.”
Prince George and Vanderhoof Conservative party members will choosing from Todd Doherty, Nick Fedorkiw or Shari Green on December 13th. Voting will take place in Quesnel and Williams Lake on the 12th.
Most believe this vote will be choosing the next MP for the riding given that it is traditionally a blue stronghold.
