The year-to-date total value of building permits issued in Prince George has reached an all-time high, despite it still being October.

Currently sitting at $169.26 million, 2018 has passed 2007 ($147.88 million) for the highest ever number in one year for PG.

“There is strong confidence in our economy here in Prince George is the bottom line,” says Mayor Lyn Hall.

“It means jobs for young people who want to stay in Prince George, as well as people who have been living here for a number of years that can take the opportunity to find work.”

A major contributor to this historically high number is from private sector investment, which had a record of its own set. This year has seen $135.17 million put into private investments, exceeding the $121.6 million mark set two years ago.

“Park House Condo developments, a number of private sector investments into existing buildings that are being upgraded, we are seeing it right across the map,” Hall explains.

“It’s 80% of the current year’s development that is private sector-driven.”

Another record set was for residential building permit values, at $100.31 million.
