The BC First Nations Health Authority is under fire from the Auditor General of Canada for shaky recruiting and human resource practices.
Auditor General, Michael Ferguson says the group has been dealing with pains due to rapid growth following its formation.
“In a nutshell, the BC First Nations Health Authority was the result of a successful collaboration but it now needs to make a greater commitment to accountability.”
Ferguson’s office put the Health Authorities hiring practices under the microscope and found that out of 14 manager hired, just 3 positions were publicly posted.
They say that raises questions that best people for each job might not be getting recruited.
The audit also said there were problems with the organization’s conflict of interest reporting policies and that there were gaps it’s criminal record check program for people working with vulnerable people.
The BC First Nations Health Authority is a joint effort between Health Canada, the Province of BC and First Nations groups which is responsible for delivering first nations health programs across the province.
The audit was conducted in response to an anonymous letter obtained and made public by the APTN.
