Former Olympian headlines Hart Highlands Winter Club Fall Fundraiser

The first Hart Highlands Winter Club Fall Fundraiser is taking place Saturday night at the Hart Community Centre.

Headlining the event is retired Canadian Skicross Olympic gold medalist and world champion, Ashleigh McIvor. Member Casey Johnson says her making an appearance could help to inspire the next generation to get into winter sports.

“To have somebody of that level come up to Prince George and talk to all of us and inspire us and inspire the kids in sport, skiing, [snowboarding], and everything that goes with that up at the Hart, it’s a great lifestyle and a good thing for our kids to get them outside and have some fun.”

Funds raised will go into additional infrastructure and development for the community hill. Johnson explains how much the location means to not only his family but others in Prince George as well.

“Over the years, so many people have been touched by this hill and this is going to be the 50th anniversary of Hart Highlands and I know my kids ski there, other people grandkids ski there, everybody has been affected by this hill over the years. It’s a great stepping stone and a little gem in the north.”

Doors open at 5:30pm. There will be cocktails, a dinner, dancing, and live and silent auctions.
