Koehler says his farewells

It was more than just bylaws and readings at the Prince George City Council earlier this week.

In an emotional speech, Councilor Albert Koehler said his goodbyes to council at their October 2nd meeting. He announced earlier this year that he would not be running for another term.

“I thank those who elected me, it is an honour, to be clear, and not a privilege. I thank fellow councillors and council members, administration, and certainly you, your worship (Mayor Lynn Hall),” said Koehler in his address to council.

“Thank you for accepting me here, for tolerating me and more importantly for respecting me and my opinion which often was different than the ones of the majority of councillors.”

True to form even in that evening, Koehler was the only vote in opposition to the third readings of cannabis bylaws.

Mayor Lynn Hall, among other councilors, said it had been a “privilege and an honour” to have worked with Koehler, who has been on council since 2011.
