WATCH: City installing concrete chamber to replace sewer pipe that caused Winnipeg/Carney sinkhole

WATCH:

City crews are installing a concrete chamber to replace a failed section of sewer pipe that caused the sinkhole at Winnipeg and Carney.

While removing groundwater from around the pipe, crews found eight metres of it had deteriorated from stormwater turbulence.

“The pipes are meant to last for 80 to 100 years and we are maybe halfway so there should be lots of life left in the rest of the pipes.”

– Josh Kelly, City Supervisor of Energy, Environment, and Sustainability

The entire intersection is expected to be repaved and reopened in mid to late October.
