Nearly half of those served by Salvation Army in PG are under 16

The Christmas kettle campaign for the Salvation Army is in full-swing.

Captain Neil Wilkinson says they have served over 1,200 families each month in Prince George

“That’s massive numbers, we’re looking at 3,500 people that are fed,” he says. “The most alarming statistic is that 48% are under the age of 16.”

Wilkinson says they are sitting at over $3,700 donated, locally.

Their goal is $250,000.

The Salvation Army is also asking for community support for the Tree of Lights Luncheon.

Captain Neil Wilkinson says the fundraiser is also put on with the help of Save-On Foods and the Coast Inn of the North.

“If anybody has been in the downtown corridor, they might see up at the top of the Coast Inn of the North that great big 75-foot tree, it’s only partially lit up, because we’re looking for your support to light up that Christmas Tree,” he says.

The luncheon menu goes pretty deep with turkey, pig, salmon, and roast beef.

Tickets are $30 and available at the Coast Inn where it will also be held next Friday.
