MP Nathan Cullen calls government actions against veterans "shameful"

With the Harper government announcing it would be spending around $200 million dollars to address mental health issues among Canadas Veterans, the concern of veteran care is a hotly debated topic of late.

Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Nathan Cullen says the government talks a lot about supporting the troops, but when they actually get home there are few options available:

“Now how those services are delivered, you can work with the veterans groups [and] not against them, and so far all of the conflict that Mr.Harper has created with the Veterans of Canada I think is shameful. It’s one thing to proudly and confidently send them off to war, but to not support them when they come back home I think is disgraceful to this government or any government”

Perhaps the best local example of a soldier suffering from PTSD and needing that kind of support was Greg Matters – the former Canadian Armed forces member shot in a standoff with Police back in 2012.

With the Prince George veterans office one of the first in Canada to be closed earlier this year, time will tell if the new efforts from Government are enough.
