The Forest Practices Board will take a look at the McLeod Lake Mackenzie Community Forest Limited Partnership in the Mackenzie Natural Resource District.
The auditors will examine multiple aspects of its operations between September 1st and 14th, to see if requirements were met of the Forest and Range Practices Act and the Wildfire Act. These include all operational planning, harvesting, roads and bridges, silviculture, and wildfire protection and associated planning.
Once the audit work is complete, a report will be prepared and any party who may be affected will have a chance to respond before the final report and recommendations are released to the government and the public. The audit starts Monday.
The District of Mackenzie and the McLeod Lake Indian Band jointly operate the partnership, which is granted the right to harvest up to 30,000 cubic metres of timber per year on 24,664 hectares of public forestlands in the Mackenzie timber supply area.
The Forest Practices Board is BC’s independent watchdog for sound forest and range practices. It reports findings and recommendations directly to the public and government. It audits forest and range practices on public land and appropriateness of government enforcement.
