The first public candidacy announcement for the School District 57 (SD57) has been made.
Stephanie Mikalishen-Deol has decided to run in the Fall election to become a potential member of the Board of Trustees.
She’s been working with the YMCA of Northern BC for the past 10 years, primarily as Manager of Philanthropy, Marketing, and Camps; she is also currently serving as the President of the BC Camps Association.
In a statement, Mikalishen-Deol says she believes education should be student-centred, where mental well-being is promoted both staff and students.
“Education is the largest impact we can have on our children and youth as a community. I cannot think of a better place to make a difference and assure that every child is receiving the best education to assure they are successful.”
She adds her campaign will be self-supported, with minimal costs and of an environmentally-friendly mindset.
General voting day takes place October 20th, 2018.
