PG receives support for green innovation projects

Prince George has received $125,000 for its Climate Change Mitigation Initiative.

The Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) announced over $12.1 million in funding for 159 new initiatives in communities across Canada that focus on green projects.

Supervisor of Energy and Environment, Josh Kelly says the money will be going to replanning their emission target.

“We’ve been a member of the Partner for Climate Protection program for the last 12 years or so and we are looking at updating and prioritizing our emissions inventory.”

“We had targets in our past plan of a 10 per cent reduction over 2,002 levels by 2012,” added Kelly. “That was in our 2005 plan and since then we have had only anecdotal targets.”

Kelly says they should have a new plan in place by mid-summer 2019.
