Northerners heading out this long weekend are being reminded to stay alert and stay safe on those roads.
On average for the North Central Region, The BC Day long weekend claims 25 lives in 130 crashes every year.
ICBC Spokesperson Mark Milner suggest switching up driving duties if you plan to be on the road for an extended period of time.
“If you’ve got more than one qualified driver in the vehicle it is absolutely a good idea to plan out shifts so you can spell each other off,” he says.
There are other things Milner wants drivers to keep in mind.
“It is really tempting if you’ve got a long stretch of open road in front of you to crank it up.”
“We really need to make sure that we are staying within the speed limit. They are designed for everybody and for ideal conditions,” Milner added.
Milner warns you don’t know what could be around the bend so it’s better to be safe and approach by keeping to the posted speed limit.
