Prince George is ranked 5th for overdose deaths so far this year.
According to the BC Coroners Service, there have been 25 related illicit drug overdose deaths for the Northern Capital. This is an increase from 2017 when PG recorded 22 deaths.
The Northern Health Authority is on track of surpassing last years overdose numbers, with a recorded 45 deaths in 2018 compared to 59 in 2017. Northern Health saw six deaths in June 2018, up from four in June 2017.
Overall for BC, there were 105 suspected drug overdose deaths in June 2018. This is a 15 per cent decrease over the number of deaths that occurred the same time last year (123).
The highest number of drug overdose deaths are in Vancouver, Surrey, and Victoria.
