“There is no reasoning behind changing the hours.”: Tom Masich

The opening of Masich Place is approaching and residents are still asking the City to loosen up its rules about the hours allowed on the new track.

The City announced last week the new stadium will only be open to the public for seven hours between 6AM and 1PM.

Tom Masich, Prince George hall of famer for track and field, doesn’t understand why the City doesn’t revert back to the original hours of the stadium.

“I think it’s at a stage where public opinion has to be in favor of just restoring the hours as they were prior to the renovations.”

“There is no reasoning behind changing the hours or reducing the hours from being opened at 6 in the morning until 10 in the evening. It was used at all times by all people and they want it left that way,” says Masich.

Not only does this create a burden for those who want to use it recreationally, but for athletes of different sports as well.

“Many of the hours of UNBC soccer practice and play is the same hour’s track and field or football will be using the stadium. It remains to be seen how this will work out.”

A report on changing the policy is will be presented to council Monday.
