The British Columbia Assembly of First Nations (BCAFN) is extending its congratulations to Perry Bellgarde on being re-elected as the National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations.
Bellegarde was able to garner 328 of the 522 votes in a second ballot, giving him just over the 60 per cent needed to be elected as leader for a second term.
BC Regional Chief Terry Teegee sent his congratulations in a release stated, “Congratulations to National Chief Perry Bellegarde. We look forward to working together with the Chiefs in BC, Chiefs across Canada and the Regional Chiefs. We are at a historic moment in our relationships with the federal and provincial governments and now is the time to work with the Assembly of First Nations leadership to ensure that First Nations inherent rights and treaty rights are affirmed and implemented according to our terms.”
The Assembly of First Nations met in Vancouver this week to take part in the 39th Annual General Assembly.
