Gas to stay at 141.9 cents a litre for a while: Gasbuddy.com

Motorist in Prince George will have to bear the brunt of increased gas prices.

Right now, most stations in PG are sitting at 141.9 cents a litre with some maxing out at 142.9.

“I continue to see prices that I have not certainly seen since going back to this time in 2014,” says Dan McTeague, Senior Petroleum Analyst for Gasbuddy.com.

“This is because of increased refinery profits and more importantly by governments taking more and more taxes,” he added.

However, Premier John Horgan disagrees with that, saying price gouging is to blame for this and not higher taxes.

“When you see that type of an increase and the price of a litre of gasoline it’s not about taxation. I know that there are those who would like to make that the argument but clearly there is not a connection between the commodity price of a barrel of oil and the price at the pumps.”

It’s not likely we will see a decrease for some time because companies in the north have been holding back on raising prices, McTeague says.

“Gas stations were acting as shock absorbers and deciding not to increase prices even though their replacement cost had increased well into last week and into the long weekend.”
