Cultures from all around Prince George are converging at Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park for Canada’s birthday.
Tons of events will be on hand at the 45th Anniversary of the “Celebrate Canada” festival from the international food fair, seven-hours of performances, and kids activities.
However, Executive Director Marlies Greulich says it’s getting harder each year to find entertainers.
“The parents that immigrated have children and their children are now adults and the second generation doesn’t seem to be picking up the dancing and signing of their music. So it is becoming harder and harder to continue with the entertainment.”
Although entertainment may be lacking as the years go on, Greulich says the food and activities along with welcoming newcomers to the country still thrive at the event.
“They can come and mingle with the rest of the people and just see that Canada is embracing everyone no matter where they are from and that’s an opportunity to meet new neighbors and talk to them.”
The celebration takes place July 1st and usually attracts about 10,000 people to the event.
