The intersection of Winnipeg Street and Carney continues to be a trouble spot after a sinkhole opened up following Wednesday’s thunderstorm.
General Manager of Engineering and Public Works Dave Dyer addressed the media on Friday about the cause of the sinkhole and how they plan on fixing it.
“We can’t really predict right now when it’s going to be fixed, we’re kind of just going into this exploring and we know that the closure will last into next week for sure as it will probably be a good number of days because of the excavation and where a cavity like this of some kind might be.”

Dyer asks residents to avoid the area and to take a different route until the work is finished.
“We think it’s this big pipe (that’s responsible for the sinkhole) somehow, we’re not sure yet but it will be a number of days (until road crews fix it) so we just ask residents to take a different road while driving if you can.”
The City of Prince George also attended to a pair of sinkholes back in 2014.
