With the abrupt temperature drop this week Fortis BC is saying natural gas usage has nearly doubled while people turn up the furnace to heat their homes.
Fortis BC spokesperson Grace Pickall says you should be getting all your natural gas appliances checked around this time of the year;
“We recommend that for our customers, before turning up the heat, it’s important for them to contact a certified natural gas contractor. They’ll insure appliances are in top condition before the heating season begins”
Fortis BC also has rebates available for anyone that wants an upgrade to their natural gas systems. But people not wanting to do renovations can save money too;
“There are still lots of low cost / no cost changes you can make in your day to day use. For example, put on a sweater instead of cranking up the heat. That is one of the easiest things you can do. Especially seeing as 50 cents of every dollar on your energy bill goes towards space heating alone”
