One local business is happy the federal government has officially confirmed the legalization of cannabis date of October 17th, 2018.
Zaga’s Hemp Shop in Prince George sells marijuana accessories like glass pipes, vaporizers, and of course rolling papers.
“All most everyday someone comes in and asks if we are a dispensary or what the deal is or if we have any information on it. I think Prince George is in need of having a dispensary or something because there are definitely people here that want to use marijuana for medical purposes,” says Kristi Barnes Store Manager.
When asked if Zega’s would become a dispensary, Barnes says it’s too early to start looking into that and they’ll have to wait to see what the City’s regulations will look like.
Last week, Mayor Lyn Hall stated they will have to see what the partnership between the provincial and federal government will look and what dollar amounts they will see before they can provide a framework.
Today, Mike Farnworth, Minister of Public Affairs and Solicitor General, issued the following statement:
“It’s important to remember that the date set by the federal government for cannabis legalization will just be the beginning. The legalization of cannabis is complex, and the Province is committed to monitoring the implementation and making any adjustments necessary to meet our provincial goals. This includes continuing to engage local governments and Indigenous governments and organizations beyond legalization, to ensure specific interests and concerns are addressed.”
