BC Bus North expanding payment options

The Ministry Transportation has announced alternate payment options for the new BC Bus North service that will take over for Greyhound when they discontinues major northern routes.

Originally, people would have to book ahead and pay by credit card. Now the bus will be accepting debit card for bookings and people can pay with their card in person when boarding the bus.

Customers will need to reserve their seats ahead of time by calling the BC Bus North call centre, and customers will then connect with the driver to complete the debit transaction when boarding the bus.

The Ministry of Transportation along with BC Transit announced Tuesday, BC Bus North will begin operations June 4th, and will have one-way fares starting between $35 or $45.

BC Bus North’s service will include two round-trips per week, between Prince Rupert and Prince George, Prince George and Valemount, and Prince George to Dawson Creek/Fort St. John. Additionally, BC Bus North will offer one round-trip per week from Fort Nelson to Dawson Creek/Fort St. John.

This is a 12 month project to gather information on where services are needed the most, added Trevena.

The estimated cost of the service is $2 million and will be offset by the fare revenue collected by the bus.

Greyhound will discontinue services in the north June 1st.
