Springwood Elementary School is getting two new portables to help accommodate the surprising enrolment growth.
Its been projected that by the 2024-2025 school year, Springwood will grow to 282 students from the current amount of 193. Something that was not predicted back when the board was in talks about opening the school back up.
SD57 Chairperson Tim Bennett says portables aren’t always the best in Northern BC, but it will be a solution in the mean time.
“While portables provide a safe and clean place for students to learn they aren’t always viewed the most practical in the north.”
“We want to proved great learning opportunities for students out at Springwood and as student enrolment is continuing to grow, we know that in order to keep students in that school we need to expand capacity.”
In the future there may need to be changes in certain areas of the budget to include for the growth at the elementary school, added Bennett
The two portables will cost roughly $425,000 all together.
