SD57 approves 2018-2019 annual budget

School District 57 unanimously approved the balanced budget for 2018-2019 school year.

This years $165 million will see current programming remaining the same, SD57 in full compliance with the teacher’ collective agreement, and additional surplus used for different projects to support student learning.

Unfortunately when it comes to budget opportunities, the district was hit with additional fees which cut the original $1.7 million into $793,757.

“There was dollars that needed to go back into our schools that needed to be included. There was dollars to support our special needs issues from the audit that we had, and extra services that needed to be developed and put in the budget. They were must do’s,” says Trustee Sharel Warrington.

The district is still able to take advantage of certain opportunities, such as recruitment of Teachers Teaching on Call(TTOC), four additional vice-principles, and more for student support services. All of this is apart of the 2016-2021 Strategic Plan goal of Opportunity.

Warrington added there are also expenses the board has to account for, such as utilities, and they are reaching out to the government to step in and help offset those costs.
