A year after launch the provinces Mentorship BC program is making strides in connecting small business owners with mentors.
Small business minister Naomi Yamamoto says it’s important to tap into the knowledge of the retiring generation;
“We also used the site to recruit mentors. Because as we know our population is aging and people are retiring and they have a wealth of knowledge. So we also want to make sure that we keep our stable of mentors large”
She says that 75% of entrepreneurs that receive mentorship see growth in their business and that the program has been integrated into other programs as well;
“Women’s Enterprise Center provides small business loans to women. Their default rate is incredibly low because they insist that if a entrepreneur is going to receive a loan from them they actually have to be mentored.”
The program has seen growth in the past year since its launch with thousands of unique hits on its website and dozens of public success stories.
It can be accessed at mentorshipbc.ca
