Integris Credit Union and a large contingent from the Canada Winter Games unveiled a photo mural of a local athlete downtown today.
14 year old downhill skier Kaitlyn Martin is excited but nervous about being featured on the mural;
“It’s a bit nerve racking because now I feel like I have so much pressure on me to make it in the games and do well. But it’s definitely very cool to have a huge me up in the middle of downtown”
She has been on skis since two and downhill racing since five. Kaitlyn is competing for a spot on Team BC in the Super G, Giant Slalom and Ski Cross Events.
Integris Manager of Partnerships Dan Wingham says the mural displays their support for the community and Canada Winter Games;
“This year alone 23% of our net income, over $300,000, went back to the community. Typically at another financially institution that is profit that goes to the share holders and who knows where they are. In our instance that goes back to sporting groups, arts and culture, seniors charities and so on”
Wingham said they were happy to use a local athlete on the mural as opposed to stock photography.
