City of Prince George acquire assistive voting machine

The city of Prince George has unveiled a new machine that will make voting easier for the blind.

Chief election officer Walter Babicz describes how the AutoMARK machine works;

“The AutoMARK voting machine works by displaying ballot choices and instructions in large text print and the touch screen as well as reading them on the audio system. The machine generates audio voting instructions that will guide a visually impaired voter through the election sequence with headphones”

The Canadian National Institute for the Blind says that the machine will be a big help to its 400 plus members in PG.

The device will be available for use during advance voting days at City Hall November 5th and 12th. Blind voters will still be able to vote on general election day at any of the polling stations with a helper.
