WATCH: PG could soon host BC’s only non-governmental First Nations arts council

WATCH:

A group of First Nations artists in PG is looking to become the 1st non-governmental Indigenous arts council in BC.

The Northern Indigenous Artists’ Collective (NIAC) goal is inclusive, accessible, and equitable opportunities for young people both traditionally and contemporary.

“It’s leading to your own cultural identity. A lot of us starting out, we went out and there was nothing. Now we’re creating something because we know what is needed for that next generation; we’re representing the community, but also representing Indigenous people as well.”

– Ivan Paquette, Reconciliation Officer

NIAC is working to organize a major arts symposium in PG for Indigenous artists from across the region for March 2019.
