UNBC Timberwolves elated with Masich Place upgrades

The wow factor was on full display as the UNBC Timberwolves came away quite impressed with the new and improved Masich Place Stadium following a guided tour with the City of Prince George.

UNBC soccer teams will be calling the facility home after spending several years at the North Cariboo Senior Soccer League Fields.

“The turf is excellent and the stands look great, the city will be doing some cleanup on the track and field area but I think overall, we are really excited to get down there to make that our home for our Canada West league games,” says Loralyn Murdoch, UNBC Athletics Director.

She adds most of the big schools have turf fields and this addition will give the university the chance at more opportunities.

“We have an opportunity to apply to host nationals because it is an all-weather field rain, snow, you name it we can play on it without any damage and it just gives us that sense of security.”

The NCSSL Fields provided the T-Wolves a much-needed place to play in the past, however, at the end of the day, it all came down to weather.

“Two years in a row we had to relocate our team at a very, very high price tag to a different city to play league games because it snowed, now with the availability of turf we can see some stability with our schedule.”

Most teams within the Canada West Conference have a turf field followed by a grass alternate if need be, a luxury UNBC didn’t have prior to the Masich move.

Masich Place is expected to re-open by mid-June, weather permitting.
