Theatre Northwest’s “True North New Works” program is becoming quite a success; a pair of short plays from local amateur writers will be going into production with group.
Dennis Tait’s Looking at Life will warm up audiences before the third show of the season; The Black Bonspiel of Wullie Maccrimmon. Tait’s play tells the story of a man going camping with his wife and his life around it in the first person.
Theatre Northwest Artistic Producer Jack Grinhaus says the show will be the real deal;
“The actors, directors and designers of the big shows are actually the ones doing these little pieces as well. So they are being done by professionals all around which is great it means these shows get a professional mounting and get to be taken to that next level”
The second short play, Betsy Trumpener’s “Highway of Fears” will debut in front of a play by well known aboriginal playwright Tara Beagan next year.
Grinhaus says he is optimistic about the future of the program;
“We are very excited about what this can provide to the community, we are very happy with what we’ve got already and think that this is something that hopefully we can continue to work with down the way. Hopefully even get more writers interested in jumping in”
The Black Bonspiel of Wullie Maccrimmon and Dennis Tait’s Looking at Life will be live Feb 12th – March 4th 2015.
