Meteorologists issue dust advisory for Prince George

For a second time in five days, Prince George has been issued a dust advisory.

According to BC Air Quality meteorologists with the Ministry of Environment, high concentrations of fine particulate matter have once again entered the surrounding atmosphere due to a lack of rain.

The air quality index currently reads nearly 50% above the normal level of 50 micrograms-per-cubic-metre.

The advisory pertains to busy roads and industrial parks, and Northern Health is advising residents to avoid outdoor strenuous activity and stay indoors until the advisory is lifted.

This includes infants, seniors, those with diabetes, and those with lung or heart disease.

All open burning is also banned in the City at this time as per the Clean Air Bylaw, including recreational fires and street sweeping.
