This weekend’s Shred It event by Prince George Crime Stoppers brought in $2,392.50, including $455 from the Mr. Mikes charity BBQ.
It is the highest grossing event ever put on by the organization and nearly doubles the last Shred It event. PG Crime Stoppers Vice-President Ron Polillo says this fundraiser is vital for the group because they do not receive money from any level of government.
“Some of the money will go in awareness to get people to make sure they know what Crimestoppers is all about and what we do,” he explains.
“Also pay out tips, we pay out reward money to tips that lead to arrests. And just general operation of the program.”
Shred It runs twice every year but last fall’s event was cancelled. That, on top of a few other factors, is why Polillo thinks this time around was the best ever.
“There were a few people who mentioned to me personally that this was recycling from the fall and whatever else they could add,” he says.
“I think the fact of the new central location and the more accessibility at CN Centre and the fact that it was also Home Show weekend all helped us tremendously.”
The next Shred It event is expected to take place in late September.
