City of PG getting the word out about new snow control procedures

The City of Prince George is getting the word out about their new snow and ice removal procedures .

Associate Director of Public Works Gina Layte-Liston says they are advertising snow clearing through a variety of media, with a heavy online presence.

“We’re having an E-Notify system, which will allow residents to go on the city’s website and they can register for updates on snow, that can either go to their text, or they can get e-mails,” she says.

She says getting the word out is important, given two recent changes to how and when they handle snow.

“We have a new snow and ice control routes bylaw and that is dealing with parking on a number of major routes and other areas,” she says. “That has different times where people cannot park on those roads.”

“The other piece is that we have some changes to our time-frames for priority,” Layte-Liston explains. “For priority one and two areas [main roads, the business district, hospital, civic facilities] we will have snow removal complete in a 48-hour time-period after the snow-fall.”

“The priority three’s are looking at the end of the snowfall, we’ll have those complete in 72 hours,” she says.
