With winter at the gates and snow in the forecast for the weekend, ICBC is reminding drivers to slow down this season.
7 out of 10 crashes are related to driving too fast for the conditions and ICBC’s Diana Pozer says 4 wheel drive and snow tires are not the magic answer;
“Winter tires alone are not enough. Drivers need to adjust their driving to their road conditions they encounter. Slow down and increase your following distance to at least four seconds and give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination.”
She had some other tips for staying safe on the roads;
“Make sure that you are using your headlights, we have a lot more darkness this time of year as we approach the winter season. Make sure your tires are rated for the conditions and check your tire pressure, it drops in cold weather and over inflated tires can reduce gripping”
Injuries and deaths on the roads usually double in the winter months as a result of people driving too fast for the conditions.
