The City of PG has begun its spring clean up to collect all the rocks and dust left over from winter.
City operations approaches this clean up the same as snow removal, so priorities one and two, which are main roads and the downtown, are tackled first.
“We are hoping to have that completed by the end of May or so. Once we complete that we move into residential, and that can take usually take upwards of ten weeks to complete,” says Blake McIntosh, Manager, Roads and Fleets Division.
On average, the City deposits 15,000 to 20,000 on city streets and sidewalks to improve traction on icy surfaces.
All the material collected goes to the landfill, but that could change that in the future.
“We are always looking at being innovative and potentially recycling some of the larger material. That could be in the works for future years.”
Members of the public are being reminded parking is not permitted on downtown streets during spring and summer sweeping operations from 1am to 8am.
