Avalanche Canada to train locals on how to use app

The BC government has distributed $6.5 million in disaster-mitigation funding.

Avalanche Canada received $50,000 of that money, which they will put towards avalanche reporting and mapping.

“We plan to train people on how to use our mountain information network, which is a public avalanche data sharing platform that can be accessed from our website or app,” says Karl Klassen, Warning Service Manager.

“What we’re hoping to do train people how to use that system and encourage people to use it, so, more data is available.”

Klassen added they want to focus on training more locals so they don’t have to bring people up from the southern region

How many people will be trained isn’t known yet, but it could range from three to five.

a full plan will be laid out next season.
