George the Barber back in business

George the Barber back behind the barber chair.

Back in April, George Blanis was being forced out of his Days Inn location, after cutting and shaving hair in the city for just shy of 50 years, while the hotel was being prepared to be sold.

That deal fell through, now Blanis is back at work and looking pretty happy about it; “It’s wonderful, wonderful,” he says. “I feel like I’m 50 years old again.”

Blanis isn’t sure why the deal fell through; “The only thing I know, is that I’m back here, they asked me and I’m very happy,” he says. “The old owners were wonderful people, they gave me a good deal as always, I’m very happy, I really appreciate it.”

Drew Larson had been going to George’s Barber Shop since he was a little boy. “I’m just glad George is back here cutting my hair again, because we all missed him a lot while he was gone, it was hard to find and train a new barber, after all the years of being here,” Larson laughs.

Blanis’ hope is to recruit someone to take over the business started in Prince George by his father.

In the meantime, Blanis still plans to celebrate his 50th anniversary on the job, a bit after it’s actual date of August. He also celebrates his 77th birthday this Sunday.

What he wants Prince George to know is that he is back in business and open Tuesdays to Saturdays 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Days Inn, phone # (250) 563-3541.
