Tourism Prince George and the Prince George Conference & Civic Centre is hosting an Ambassador’s Reception, coinciding with the third annual Global Meetings Industry Day.
This is the second year for the reception, acknowledging and celebrating those who helped bring meetings and conventions to the PGCCC.
“Estimated economic impact for the city in 2017 directly related to meetings and conferences being held at the PGCCC was $10,018,196,” said Manager of Events and Civic Centre Myles Tycholis in a statement.
“Prince George saw approximately 10,225 non-resident delegates and exhibitors attend events at the PGCCC in 2017, with the average non-resident delegate spending approximately $673.00 and the average non-resident exhibitor spending approximately $1,586.00.
The economic impact was felt throughout the city, not just the centre. Tourism PG CEO Erica Hummel notes the PGCCC hosting events has a ripple effect throughout PG.
“It’s an incredibly important piece especially for the downtown and other hotels that really benefit from those people coming in,” she explains.
“They put their events on at the Conference Centre but they actually have the accommodations taken at the hotels and the restaurants around town.”
There is more to it than just the economic impact of the hosted events. Hummel says delegates attending them can help PG in evolving and hosting later conventions.
“They might bring in business leaders from sectors that we’re wanting to grow in and there might be some exchange of knowledge and some transfer of investments in the future.”
The Ambassador’s Reception is an invite-only event being held on Thursday.
