RCMP to zero in on prohibited drivers

The Prince George RCMP will be targeting people who choose to drive despite being prohibited.

This came to light after officers pulled over a man known to be banned from driving last week, and found out he just picked up court documents for two previous prohibited driving charges during the month of February.

The driver was found guilty and sentenced to 14 days in jail and issued a further driving prohibition.

In the last three years, the RCMP have charged and sent to court approximately 300 people for driving while prohibited.

“It’s our observation that there is a higher than normal number of drivers that choose to drive in Prince George while prohibited, suspended or disqualified” says Sgt. Matt LaBelle, in charge of the Prince George RCMP Municipal Traffic Services Section. “Municipal traffic is dedicated to improving road safety, so we will be specifically targeting those persons that do not hold the privilege to drive, but choose to do so, putting other drivers at risk.”

Anyone who is aware of someone who continues to drive while banned is being asked to call PG RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
