Streets in West Quesnel have re-opened following a lockdown and significant police presence as RCMP executed a search warrant in the 400 block of Willis Street this morning.
Quesnel RCMP, along with the North District Emergency Response Team, was joined by additional police units from Prince George and Williams Lake to execute the search warrant before 9AM.
Several streets in the West Quesnel area were blocked off and residents in the area were asked to stay inside their homes.
Neighbouring schools were advised of the incident and asked to keep students inside until police completed their initial search.
At approximately 10:35AM, all streets in the area were re-opened to the public.
“Quesnel RCMP understands the road closures were an inconvenience to many in the area,” says Detachment Commander Staff Sergeant Andrew Burton in a release.
“We would like to thank the public for their cooperation and understanding during this incident.”
Several people from inside the residence have been detained as RCMP continue their investigation.

ORIGINAL STORY:
Quesnel RCMP is staying mum on an incident with heavy police presence and a lockdown in an area in West Quesnel this morning.
The VISTA Radio news team in Quesnel was on scene and said spoke with RCMP Sergeant Chris Riddle.
“Riddle said that they can’t release much right now because of the situation. They don’t want residents in the area to be too concerned and they have the situation under control,” explains Cariboo Country announcer Ron Nilsen.
He adds RCMP had a three-block area from Doherty Drive through Wade Avenue near Baker School and Winder Street blocked off.
“RCMP were not letting in people in for safety reasons but it does look just in the last couple of minutes where they’re pulling back a little bit. Police have left Wade Avenue, they’ve left from Doherty, but as of a few minutes ago, still a number of police vehicles with their lights on Winder Street.”
According to Nilsen, Riddle says once RCMP have their operation complete, they will be providing an update.
