The Cariboo Cougars were almost denied the chance to advance to the second round against the Thompson Blazers.
Brennan Malgunas and Hunter Floris made sure it didn’t happen on Saturday as the defending BC Major Midget Hockey League champs won 2-1 on Saturday at Kin 1 Arena, spoiling a masterful effort from Blazers netminder Ethan Langenegger.
Cariboo was unable to separate from Thompson despite outshooting the visitors 27-7 after two periods.
Goalie Marcus Allen picked up both victories during the series but was aided by the post late in the game, preserving the win.
Cariboo won the opener handily 9-1.
The Cougars will host the 8th place Vancouver NE Chiefs in the semi-finals starting Friday.
The Chiefs upset the first place Valley West Hawks two games to one in the opening round.
